Peter Weiderud is a Swedish diplomat and director of the Swedish Institute Alexandria, a platform for dialogue between the Countries in Europe and the Middle East, dealing with issues of importance to the political, economic and social development of the Middle East/North Africa Region and to contribute to increased mutual understanding in the spheres of culture and religion. He is at present Special Envoy for Religion in Conflict and Peace Building at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. He also served as director of the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs at the World Council of Churches. He has been for many years a consultant for Samhällsnytta i Sverige Ab inm Stockholm and was for eight years Sweden’s Secretary General of the Parliament Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons. He has been a speech writer to the Foreign Minister of Sweden and a Personal Assistant to the Bishop of the Västerås Diocese of the Swedish Church. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from the School of 10Journalism at Stockholm University and studied Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution at Uppsala University.
