Piotr Szymaniec earned a Ph.D. in law (2012) and a degree of Habilitated Doctor of Law (doktor habilitowany nauk prawnych) (2017) from the University of Wrocław. He is a professor at the Institute of Socio-Legal Studies at the Angelus Silesius University of Applied Sciences in Wałbrzych (Poland). He has been appointed as a member of the Legislative Council for the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland for the 2018-2022 term. Szymaniec is the author of more than 100 publications, which have been translated into 6 languages, including: Republikanizm dla społeczeństwa handlowego: Myśl polityczno-prawna Adama Fergusona(“Republicanism for a Commercial Society: The Political and Legal Thought of Adam Ferguson,” 2013); Koncepcje wolności religijnej: Rozwój historyczny i współczesny stan debaty w zachodniej myśli polityczno-prawnej (“Concepts of Religious Freedom: Historical Development and the Present Status of Debate in Western Legal and Political Thought,” 2017), Religionsfreiheitsraum im Polen, Tschechien und im Deutschland: Rechtliche Analyse (2017, co-author, published in German, Czech, and Polish), “Freedom of Religious Beliefs or Religious Freedom? The Recent Case Law of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal” (in Brett G. Scharffs, Asher Maoz & Ashley Isaacson Woolley, eds., Religious Freedom and the Law: Emerging Contexts for Freedom for and from Religion, Routledge 2018). He has presented at many international conferences in Oxford, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, Tartu, Stockholm, Moscow, Riga, Vienna, Hannover, Belgrade, Bratislava, and Brno.
