Montserrat Gas-Aixendri is a Professor of Law at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya School of Law in Barcelona. She holds an International JD from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid School of Law and a Doctor of Canon Law from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross School of Canon Law in Rome. She has been a Research Fellow at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs at Georgetown University (2014) and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Law School (2017). She has also lectured at the University of Illinois (USA), Universidad de Los Andes (Chile), Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (Chile) and Universidad Austral (Argentina). She currently serves as a member of the Panel of Experts on Freedom of Religion or Belief with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) (2019). Her writings include seven books as author, co-author, or editor and more than seventy essays in chapters and journal articles. Her research is mainly focused on religious freedom and accommodating cultural and religious diversity under State law, the position of religion within the public sphere, family canon law, and family & society.
