Farzana Mahmood is an advocate of Bangladesh Supreme Court and one of the co-founders and Executive Director of Bangladesh Manobadhikar O Poribesh Andolon Foundation (BAMAPA), an NGO dedicated to uphold and promote the basic human rights and environment rights of the peoples of the Bangladesh. She has vast experience of working with International organizations like United Nations Development Program, Winrock International, World Health Organization and World Bank. Farzana also regularly writes on minority rights, children rights and environmental rights in daily news papers. Recently an article of Farzana titled ‘Secularism and Religious Minority Rights-a case study of Bangladesh’ has been published in a Geneva based journal Current Dialogue (volume-59). She has presented papers on human rights and minority rights in numerous national and international conferences, including Nepal, China, Bangkok, India and Srilanka. After graduating from University of Dhaka in English Literature she did her LLB from University of London and then Bar Vocational Course from University of Northumbria, U.K. Farzana completed LLM from University of Leeds, U.K. on International and European Human Rights Law. Currently she is pursuing PhD at University of Delhi, India on ‘secularism and accommodation of religious minorities in Bangladesh’ under ICCR scholarship. In summer 2018 she was a member of the Charter Class of the Young Scholars Fellowship Program held annually in Oxford UK by the International Center for Law and Religion Studies of Brigham Young University Law School.
